About Notoya Ryokan Inn Ryokan

Those who wish to stay at an inn in Ginzan Onsen would like to actually see the hot spring resort area with its nostalgic wooden buildings.

Notoya Ryokan is a registered cultural property, and has been used as a location for popular Japanese TV dramas.

While some may think that an old ryokan with its old appearance is not so beautiful and its facilities are not so good, there is no need to worry, as Notoya has been renovated without destroying the atmosphere of the ryokan.

You can fully enjoy the atmosphere of a nostalgic Japanese hot spring ryokan.

Notoya Ryokan has a main building and an annex. The main building is on the river side, while the annex is on the mountain side, so we recommend the main building if you want to enjoy the view typical of Ginzan Onsen from your room.

If you stay in the main building and look out the window at the hot spring resort lit by gas lamps at dusk, you can enjoy the Taisho-roman atmosphere of Ginzan Onsen.

The main building is a four-story structure, with the fourth floor of the main building connected to the first floor of the two-story annex.

The front desk is on the first floor of the main building and has been remodeled to create a modern atmosphere that differs from the exterior.

There is a small store in the entrance hall where souvenirs can be purchased.

The ryokan has lovely Taisho-romantic rooms, such as the riverside lounge on the fourth floor, and the lamps throughout the ryokan are classic and very nice.

This inn is recommended for those who want to experience the classic atmosphere not only on the outside of the inn, but also inside.

About Access

Notoya Ryokan offers a pick-up service from JR Oishida Station, so you may want to use this service.

If you make a reservation at least 3 days in advance, you can use the inn's microbus that departs from Oshida Station at 13:40 or 15:45.

If you are driving a rental car, you can park in the dedicated parking lot near Omokage Bridge, just before the entrance to the hot spring resort.

Rooms are equipped with tea sets, tea-making facilities, boiling pots, refrigerators, and safes.

About Hot Spring Baths

Notoya Ryokan does not have baths in the rooms, so bathing is either in the large public baths for men and women or in the private baths.

The large public bath is located on the fourth floor, and men and women take turns using the baths according to the time of day, one of which has an open-air bath.

The baths are open from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. the next day.

The cave bath, which has been used as the original hot spring since its opening, is located in the basement down the stairs.

The location of the source of the hot spring in Ginzan Onsen was low, and in the past, when there were no pumps, baths could only be built underground, which is why the baths are like this.

銀山温泉 能登屋旅館 (トリップアドバイザー提供)

This traditional cave bath can be used as a private bath.

The baths also include an open-air bath with a view up the stairs to a mountain path.

On the way up the stairs, you may encounter birds and animals, and the open-air baths are located in the middle of nature, allowing you to relax and enjoy the hot spring while taking in the surrounding forest scenery.

The open-air bath with a view is closed in winter when snow piles up.

Although it is difficult to climb up and down the stairs to get to the open-air baths, we recommend that you try to use the baths when they are open.

It is a dish that allows you to enjoy the delicacies of Japanese cuisine.

Breakfast is served in the dining room from 7:30 am to 9:00 am.

The contents of the dishes served at the table arranged in each room are just like breakfast at a regular hot spring inn: sweetfish stewed in sweet soy sauce, grilled salmon, salad, tofu, hot spring egg, kyarabuki, soaked vegetables, konnyaku, kelp stew, seaweed, nori, rice, miso soup, pickles, yogurt, etc. The tofu is from Nogawa Tofuya.

Here is an example of breakfast dishes.

Jalan reviews, etc

word-of-mouth evaluation

I have been to Ginzan Onsen several times, but I think this ryokan is high class in every way.
Unlike the exterior, this place also has two reinforced concrete elevators in the back interior, and it is comfortable.
The ryokan stands across a river in a valley topography, and behind the building is a mountain, so indoor baths are common, but this one has an open-air bath, and there is also an exotic cave bath.
The parking lot of this ryokan is the closest to Ginzan Onsen, and the entrance to the Ginzan Onsen district is just a short walk away.
Half of the guests are foreigners traveling on their own.

Our room was in the annex, but it was very spacious with high ceilings and a mini kitchen in the room.
The open-air bath with a view was unfortunately too dark to see the view, but the hot water was good and the atmosphere was nice.
Afterwards, we borrowed the clogs that were provided and went outside to take pictures of the night view, which was the best atmosphere you can have unless you stay at the hotel.
Then we went to the large bath. There was an open-air bath here, too, and we were able to relax.
It was a truly memorable stay.
